At the 2023 World Internet Project Annual Conference held at the University of Zurich, Dr. Angus Cheong delivered a presentation entitled “Social Intelligence and Intelligence Automation: AI-aided Impact for Internet Research and Applications.” Dr. Cheong started by introducing the concept of social intelligence and shed light on the immense potential of social intelligence to revolutionize research in business and academia, paving the way for new insights and applications in the digital era. Together with the DiVoMiner® team, he showcased two cases to demonstrate the application of social intelligence in academia: AI-aided codebook and tailor-made database management.

“Social Intelligence is the ability to understand and navigate social situations and relationships effectively. It involves recognizing social cues, adapting to different social contexts, and being able to communicate and collaborate with others in a constructive manner.” Dr. Angus introduced the concept at the beginning of the presentation. As technology continues to shape the way we communicate, social intelligence remains paramount in fostering meaningful relationships, promoting collaboration, and making a positive impact on society.

The new era of social intelligence combines Human Intelligence (HI) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), utilizing social listening, data exploration, content analysis and among other capabilities. It is essential for both organizations and individuals to possess these capabilities. In the situation of academia, the fusion of HI and AI enables researchers to leverage powerful tools for exploration, interpretation and data analysis.

Application 1: AI-aided Codebook

The ‘Codebook’ allows researchers to design categories for exploring overarching themes and features within their data. This AI-powered tool significantly reduces the time-consuming process of manually creating categories by providing options based on research objectives. The Codebook feature can be accessed from the ‘AI-generated category’ tab, allowing researchers to harness the full potential of this powerful tool within the DiVoMiner® platform.

Application 2: Tailored Database Management

In today’s data-driven world, effective management of databases is crucial for researchers to organize and represent their data in a customized manner. With DiVoMiner®, researchers can import, clean, sample, and customize their data, optimizing their workflows and facilitating data retrieval. Additionally, the platform offers cloud-based database management, providing researchers with flexibility and accessibility to manage their data from anywhere, at any time.

The powerful tools offered by DiVoMiner® empower researchers to optimize their research processes. As researchers continue to leverage social intelligence and AI technologies, they will shape a more connected, collaborative, and impactful academic landscape. By harnessing the power of social intelligence and leveraging innovative platforms like DiVoMiner®, researchers can embark on a transformative journey that propels academic research to new frontiers of knowledge and understanding.

Dr. Angus Cheong was extended an invitation to present a speech on ‘Social Listening: Empowering the public’ in the plenary session of the Online Positive Intervention (OPI). The event witnessed insightful discussions regarding research applications and practical endeavors, as we continue to develop projects and foster collaborations with academics and NGOs in this field.
